How to understand which app is draining Battery

How to understand which app is draining Battery

Lately, you have realized that the battery of your devices has some problems: your mobile phone is always empty and, when you go to university, you don’t have time to finish writing all the notes for the lesson you are following because your laptop “abandons” you halfway.

What do you say? That’s the way it is and that’s why you ask yourself how to understand which app is consuming battery? In that case, don’t worry, I’m here to help. In the next chapters of this tutorial, in fact, I will explain how to obtain this information, through the battery analysis functions integrated on Android and iOS / iPad. In addition, I will also explain how to act as a computer, so that you can see which applications have the most battery consumption on a Windows or macOS portable device.

Having clarified this, all you have to do is sit comfortably and read the instructions that I will give you in this tutorial of mine; in the following paragraphs, I will explain how to proceed, with detailed step-by-step instructions. I wish you a good read and I wish you big good luck with everything!

How to understand what consumes battery

As anticipated, if you want to understand which app drains the battery all you have to do is take advantage of the native battery consumption analysis functionality that is integrated into most smartphones and tablets Android and on the latest models of iPhone And iPad.

Furthermore, as I will explain below, you can also do this assessment on a device with an operating system Windows And macOS such as a laptop computer or a MacBook.

Android

To verify which app consumes battery on Android launch the app Settings (the symbol of a gear), presses on the voice Battery, and then tap on the wording View usage details in order to see a graph on the screen showing the battery percentage and the peaks of consumption that have been detected.

Through this section, in fact, you can have detailed information on the performance of the battery and, a little further below, also on the percentages that refer to the consumption of the installed apps, of the default ones, and of the services in the background.

At this point, once you have realized which apps, on your device, consume the most battery, you can decide to delete them, if they are apps you don’t use frequently, or to optimize their consumption. energetic.

For example, on the device I use, a branded smartphone OnePlusby pressing an app icon in the menu View usage details you can reduce the battery consumption for each individual app by selecting the item Optimize to reduce some background activities.

In addition, to perform other battery-saving operations in an optimal way, I recommend that you read my guide dedicated to the subject in which I have given you several useful tips in this regard. If, on the other hand, you want to delete the apps and you need help to do so, follow the instructions contained in my tutorial on how to uninstall Android apps.

Furthermore, on the models of iPhone updated to iOS 11.3you can also view the entry Battery status which allows you to know the current capacity of the battery installed in the device.

Therefore, if you think that the battery of your device has had a reduction from the point of view of its efficiency, by tapping on this last wording you can view an indication that will show you the current battery capacity value.

After checking which apps consume the most battery on your device, you can choose to delete them and/or go to implement a series of measures to improve the autonomy of your iPhone/iPad.

In this regard, I recommend you read my tutorials on how to uninstall apps from iPhones And how to save iPhone batteries (whose indications are also valid for iPads).

If you use a laptop, checking which applications are the most battery-consuming is a useful procedure to perform.

In light of this, you will be happy to know that the PC equipped with Windows 10 And Windows 11 integrates a battery monitoring system directly into the system settings.

On Windows 10in fact, to view this section, you need to start the app of Settings: to do this, first, click the button with the Windows symbol on your computer keyboard and then press on the gear icon which is located in the left sidebar.

Once this is done, click on the entry System then locate the section Battery and click on it. At this point, in correspondence with the item Using the battery per app you can have precise information on what are the applications that cause a greater drain on the battery energy.

Through the drop-down menu that is shown to you, you can choose whether to view the apps that have consumed the most energy for the last 24 hours or within 1 week.

On Windows 11instead, to make this assessment, start the app Settings and click on the entry Power and battery. Once this is done, on the next screen that is shown to you, click on the wording Using the battery to see in the last 24 hours or in the last 7 days the list of applications and services that have consumed the most.

On computers Apple and therefore for the operating system macOS there is the possibility of using a native tool which, called Activity Monitoring is very useful in case there is the need to understand which are the applications that cause higher energy consumption.

Usually, the tool in question is used to view the list of running processes but, since this application also has other features (such as the one related to computer performance analysis) I want to talk to you about how to use it for this purpose that you set out.

That said, launch the app Activity Monitoring searching for it using the function Spotlight Search (the magnifying glass symbol), or open it by clicking on his name which is present in the folder Applications > Utility of macOS.

Once this is done, in the top bar, click on the menu item Power, to evaluate the overall energy use and that of each app. Specifically, refer to the item Energy impact (measures the energy consumption of each app), Average energy impact (indicates the average energy impact for the app), App nap (indicates which apps have low energy consumption in the background) e Prevents stopping (it is an entry that indicates if the app prevents the Mac from sleeping).

In addition, you can learn more about the power status of your computer by viewing the data in the graph marked with the wording Energy impact.

At this point, if you notice any programs that consume too much battery, you can delete them by following the instructions in my tutorial on how to uninstall a program from Mac. Furthermore, in general, you can also implement some useful operations to optimize the energy performance of your computer: in the latter case, refer to the procedures in my tutorial on how to increase laptop battery.
